Speech-Language Pathology Master's Program

Our year round preschool program for children with communication disorders provides interdisciplinary traning for Towson University students.

The master's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) combines rigorous, clinically focused academic preparation with intensive practicum experience. Our metropolitan setting in the Baltimore-Washington suburbs provides a wide array of clinical opportunities for students. Students are prepared to practice across a variety of clinical settings including early intervention, schools, hospitals, rehabilitation agencies, and nursing homes.

The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Graduates of the program are eligible for state teacher certification, state licensure, and national certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In the past three years, 100 percent of our graduates have passed the national praxis certification examination on the first attempt.

The program is committed to providing a quality education from experts who are known in their fields. Over 90 percent of speech-language pathology graduate courses are taught by full-time faculty. Classes are small, with 20-25 students in each class. Many faculty carry their expertise into the Speech, Language and Hearing Center at Towson University and supervise students in clinical practicum. This crossover from classroom to clinic insures that faculty who teach academic courses haven't forgotten what it's like to work with real patients.

The master's degree program is designed for full-time study. Academic courses during the first year are only offered during daytime hours. We do accept part-time students, but they need to work within the existing schedule. Students must have a bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology to apply. The department offers degree options for students with bachelor's degrees in other majors. For more information about other options, please check out our Programs for Students with Bachelor's Degrees in Other Fields.

Students who want to schedule a visit to our program, or have other questions about the program should contact the Graduate Program Director in Speech-Language Pathology.
