The Support for Student Success (S3) program began with a
mandate from TU President Robert Caret to
focus on strategies to increase the success of first time
students at Towson University. This initiative centered on
incoming first generation full-time students who had the
potential to succeed in college but might, for a variety of
reasons, struggle academically and socially in their first
year of college. The S3 program incorporated proven first
year college success strategies that emphasized community,
engagement, cooperation, participation and opportunity.
These strategies included ORIE 050 (a freshman seminar
class), SAGE mentors, Academic Achievement Center programs,
and specialized FYE advising. By participating in the
S3 program, students:
develop a strong network of peers at Towson;
focus on success within an organized structure through
which students will hone their study skills and their time
management skills;
access a wide array of services and activities targeted
specifically for student success; and
turn their excitement about coming to college and to
Towson into a strong and successful freshman experience.
