Dear Colleague:
With pleasure we announce that the 29th Annual Towson University All Junior-Senior Honor Band will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2010. This one-day clinic includes rehearsals throughout the day with a performance at 7:00 p.m. Students are chosen and invited to participate in this honor band based upon their contribution to your band program and your recommendation as the band director. Please list seniors first and juniors next on the attached sheet and give each of them an ability/achievement rating. You can also nominate students over the Internet by going wwwnew.towson.edu/bands and follow the Honor Band link. Your rating plays a major part in the selection process. (However, due to space and time limitations, some students may not be invited.) We must receive your nominations by Friday, October 14, 2011. (We suggest that you send us the nomination list as soon as possible!!) Upon receiving your list, we will send the application form and all of the honor band information directly to the students at the addresses you supply. All members will receive a Certificate of Participation and a 2011 AJSHB T-shirt. Lunch will be provided. There is a $25.00 fee for the Honor Band. The concert will be at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10. The admission charge to the concert is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for students.
Those seniors who are interested in attending TU as a music major or minor must attend one of the official, scheduled audition dates during the Spring semester. The official audition dates for admission into the Music Department are on January 7, February 4, and March 31, 2012. Music Department scholarships are available for music majors, and are awarded as a result of the audition on one of the scheduled audition days. (There is more scholarship money available at the earlier audition dates.). Marching band stipends of $500 are available to every member of the marching band regardless of major!! We encourage students from all majors to participate in the TU band program.
The TU Symphonic Band’s fall concert will be on Wednesday, November 2 at 8:15 pm. We hope you and your students will come and enjoy the great program we’re performing. One of the highlights from this program will be Aesop's Fables by Scott Watson, with narration by Alan Walden of WBAL. The concert will also include Johan de Meij's arrangement of Darius Milhauds' Trois Rag-Caprices, Jay Bocook's A Boy's Dream, Philip Rhodes' Three Pieces for Band, and A.B.A “Kitty Hawk” Symphony March by John Cheetam.
We look forward to hosting your outstanding students on our campus on December 10, 2011. We know your students will have a great time on our campus. We hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
|
