Dear High School Instrumentalist:

Greetings from the campus of Towson University. Your band director has described you as an outstanding musician. We congratulate you on your accomplishments. As a result of your achievement, it is with great pleasure that we invite you to apply to become a member of the Twenty-ninth Annual Towson University All Junior-Senior Honor Band held on Saturday, December 10, 2011. It is a day-long clinic consisting of rehearsals throughout the day culminating in a concert at 7:00 p.m. in the Towson University Harold J. Kaplan Concert Hall, a spectacular facility! The Honor Band is a great opportunity for you to meet together with other incredible high school musicians and to perform in an outstanding band.

Those seniors who are interested in attending TU as a music major or minor must attend one of the official audition dates for admission into the Music Department which are on January 7, February 4, and March 31, 2011. Music Department scholarships are available for music majors. There is more scholarship money available at the earlier audition dates.

Marching band stipends of $500 are available to every member of the marching band regardless of major!! We encourage students from all majors to participate in the TU band program. We'd love to have you participate in the marching band and symphonic band next year.

The application deadline is Nov. 12. There is a $25.00 application fee per student for the Towson University Honor Band. (Make checks payable to the TU Foundation. Funds for Towson University are administered by the Towson University Foundation, Inc.) We will send you a detailed schedule outlining the day's activities and the audition music once we have received your completed application and fee. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to become a member of the TU All Junior-Senior Honor Band on December 10, 2011.

The TU Symphonic Band’s fall concert will be on Wednesday, November 2 at 8:15 pm. We hope you will come and enjoy the great program we’re performing. One of the highlights from this program will be Aesop's Fables by Scott Watson, with narration by Alan Walden of WBAL. The concert will also include Johan de Meij's arrangement of Darius Milhauds' Trois Rag-Caprices, Jay Bocook's A Boy's Dream, Philip Rhodes' Three Pieces for Band, and A.B.A “Kitty Hawk” Symphony March by John Cheetam.

Please return this application today, but at least by November 12. You may also apply over the Internet. Go to wwwnew.towson.edu/bands and follow the Honor Band links. In the meantime, we hope you continue to have a great fall semester.

Kindest regards,

Dr. Dana Rothlisberger
Director of Bands
