Additional Trip Information:
WHAT TO BRING...
ALL band members may bring their TUMB garment bag, their instrument, 1 suitcase, and 1 additional carry-on bag.
- Uniform
- All Uniform Parts including shoes, long black socks, tee shirt, gloves, shako, etc.
- Band Shoes should be clean before the trip!
- An extra pair of BLACK SOCKS! In case first pair is lost or gets wet at the 4 AM rehearsal
- Make sure your garment bag, suitcase, instrument, and carry-on are labeled with your name (tape & marker are fine)
- Be prepared for any type of weather. Thermal undergarments - Make sure these DO NOT show with your uniform on. Something like Under Armour skin (you can find cheap versions at Walmart) is good, a baggy sweatshirt would not be good.
- For the dinner cruise, and for STOMP, you will need nice casual clothing. No jeans. I suggest khaki's and a nice shirt or even shirt/tie if you are inclined.
- Casual attire for the city - weather appropriate! Through the trip, wear as much Towson gear as possible!
- Extra money - Your per diem money will be given to you just AFTER the parade. We're doing this so you don't have to leave it in your hotel room, or carry it in the parade. You should have about $30 of your own money to cover yourself up until that point. It wouldn't hurt to bring more than that if you plan on doing lots in the city in your free time.
- In case of emergency have medical insurance information with you.
- We will provide you with hand and foot warmers if necessary.
- Camera
- Any school work that you need to get done over the break
- Cell Phone Charger
- Any volunteers or staff members who will be walking with the band in the parade wear black shoes and khaki's. You can wear anything on-top as we will be giving you an over-sized nylon jacket to put over whatever you are wearing. Also, please bring an empty backpack to carry thinkgs in.

SAFETY...
- Always travel with a group of people
- Always carry a city map
- Keep money and ID with you at all time
THURSDAY MORNING REHEARSAL...
- Full Uniform
- Unload quickly and warm-up on your own once we get there
- Must be Silent during rehearsal
- Be prepared to stop and run back to the red ready line
- After rehearsal keep all instruments on the bus
- All band members must have a parade button on!!
PARADE DROP OFF/LINE UP...
- Unload on W86th near Central Park West
- Do not play before 8:00 AM!
- Organize into sections. We will move in sections and may cross streets at various times. Do not play as we move. We will warm up once we are set in the staging area.
- There will be limited portable restrooms in the staging area.
- There are NO trashcans in the staging area.
- While we are moving and/or getting lined up, floats and celebrities will be passing by. YOU MUST NOT enter the street or approach these units/individuals.
- Pleas enjoy this part of the event, but stay focused and be ready to move when asked to.
- When the time is right, we will set up in the street
- The parade director will "invite us" to join the parade.
PARADE SEQUENCE...
- As soon as we are invited to "join the parade" we must begin right away!
- First 15 blocks or so - VIP seating. PLAY OFTEN, CADENCE LITTLE.
- Approaching 59th/61st streets/Columbus circle - play often - no cadence: TUNE - Roll Off -Tune - Roll Off - etc.
- 59th and Columbus Circle we will pause 15 seconds AFTER the balloons turn the corner for the picture. MAKE SURE THE BALLOONS are clear
- Columbus Circle - CBS Grandstands. Make sure we are not too close to the balloon or float in front of us. ALWAYS ALLOW AT LEAST ¼ BLOCK BETWEEN GROUPS.
- Entering Times Square, we will need to adjust our spacing some (shrink)
- ALWAYS FOCUS ON THE PARADE . . . WE'RE NOT SIGHTSEEING!
- 42nd Street - now focus on NBC - rain jackets (if warn) off at 37th street. All music including clicks stops at 36th Street -- just walk up to staging area.
- At Herald Square (in front of Macy's), we will line up at red "READY LINE" and perform our routine
- After Herald Square performance - turn and leave to fight song. Keep playing until we reach 34th and 7th.
- After the parade we will take a group picture at the Post Office
VIEWING THE PARADE...
It has been suggested that a good viewing location for people not marching with the band is Central Park West, South of 74th Street and North of 62nd Street. Times Square is not the best place to watch the parade.
HEALTH PROBLEM OR INJURY...
- If you encounter a problem, you should fall out of parade line-up
- Find a band staff member
- You will find a parade marshal (red jacket) and go with them to a designated medic
- Once you leave the parade route, you cannot re-enter. This is a parade rule and there are no exceptions.
- You must meet the band back at the Hotel or at the conclusion of the parade (post office)
