Towson University Marching Band Presents: The Marching Arts Camp

July 9-12, 2012 Towson University

The World Famous Towson University Marching Band is excited to host our 3rd Marching Arts Camp for high school band students! The dates for this year's camp are July 9-12, 2012. In an effort to support our high school bands and band students during difficult economic times, the tuition cost of this four-day camp is just $40 per person for students! There are extra fees for meals and overnight accommodations.

This is our third year hosting a camp and we are excited to further expand the camp's curriculum. Instruction will cover all aspects of the marching band including drum majors, brass and woodwinds, battery percussion, pit percussion, color guard, and marching. We are excited that once again a portion of the drum camp will be a Yamaha Sounds of Summer Percussion Camp. Our purpose is a sincere effort to support and promote music education through marching band.

In conjunction with the camp, a "Marching Band Director's Workshop" for 2 graduate credits from the school of music, will be offered at the same time. More information can be found at www.towson.edu/music.

We can be contacted at 410.704.5485 or at tigerband@towson.edu. Additional information will be posted below as it becomes available. Hope you can attend!

Camp Descriptions:

Wind, Percussion, Color Guard Camp

The winds, percussion, and color guard camp aims to put a 90-second production on the field in just four days. After a detailed clinic on basic marching and playing techniques, we start learning drill and music. Along the way, the students will be introduced to many important concepts, such as warm up techniques, how to read drill charts, how to deal with sound delay, techniques to clean forms, tips to memorize music, health and safety on the field, rehearsal etiquette, leadership sessions, and much more. With staff members from past and present seasons with the Towson University Marching Band marching alongside the students, all levels of marching experience will benefit greatly from this camp. At the end of the camp, there will be a performance for family and friends. Below is last year's final product:

Drum Major Camp

Students attending the Drum Major Camp will participate in activities to enhance skills in conducting, commands, teaching, saluting, and leadership.

Combined Portions

Both camps will combine at certain points to cover common material, such as learning and teaching general marching technique as well as general leadership skills. All campers will also participate in evening recreational activities together.

Cost:

The minimum cost for the camp is just $40. We offer meal plans and housing as an option, as we know many campers live close by. Here are the available options and their price:
