Prospective Members

How to Apply for TriBeta

To apply for membership in Beta Beta Beta, print and fill in the application form below. Hand in to the Biology Department secretary on the 3rd floor of Smith Hall with appropriate paperwork (see application form).

    Active Membership:
    • Must have a declared Biology major.
    • Must have completed at least 40 credit hoursof course work (Sophomore).
    • Must have completed at least 12 hours of Biology course work, including at least one course in addition to BIOL 201 (or 110 or 112), and BIOL 202, or their equivalents (Directed Readings, Course Research, Independent Research, Internships, and Travel Study will be considered as part of this requirement).
    • Must have a Biology GPA of 3.0 and a 2.75 GPA overall.
    • Must earn 50 points in the point system before recieving honor cords
    Associate Membership:
    • Must show an interest in the biological sciences.
    • Must have completed at least 12 credit hours of Biology course work, including at least one course in addition to BIOL 110 or its equivalent.
    • Must have a Biology GPA of 2.75 and an overall GPA of 2.5.
    • Must earn 10 points in the point system before Upgrading to Active member.

    • (Associate Members may not be elected to Chapter offices.)
    Graduate Membership:
    • Must have a minimum undergraduate Biology GPA of 2.75 and an overall GPA of 2.5.
    • Must have a graduate GPA of at least 3.0.
    • Must meet all requirements of Active membership including earn 50 points in the point system.

FAQ about the application

  • Where can I find an application?

    You may find applications in the Biology office located on the third floor, at the end of the second floor located next to the display cases located near room 279, and online. Please check that you have the correct application.

  • If do not meet all the requirements on the application, should I still apply this semester?

    NO, only applicants that have met ALL the requirements (as indicated on the application) will be admitted. Please apply once ALL of the requirements have been met! Your 12 credits of biology and 40 overall credits must be COMPLETED before applying! This tends to be 2nd semester sophomore year.

  • What is the difference between Associate and Active members?

    Active members (must be a Biology major)

         1) receive Honors cord for graduation (if met point requirements!)

         2) lifetime membership

         3) participate in club activities.

Associate members (Do not need to be a Biology major)

     1) participate in club activities

     2) can upgrade to active member when eligible for $10

 

  • Do I need to pay when I submit my application?

    YES,please include a check (made payable to: Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society) along with application.

  • May I pay in cash?

    NO, please pay by check (made payable to: Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society)

  • I am not a Biology Major, may I still join BBB?

    YES, you may become an Associate member!

  • Where should I return the application upon completion?

    The BBB mailbox, located in the Biology office on the third floor

  • When do I find out if I am accepted?

    Approximately two weeks after the due date. All of the applications are processed at the same; if you have not been notified one week before induction ceremony (last Friday before finals) please email us at Towsontribeta@gmail.com

  • When is the Induction Ceremony?

    The last Friday before Finals!

  • What is the reason for the point system? How do I get points? And why do need to earn points?

    The point system was implemented to encourage participation! You can see the breakdown of the point system at the “Point System” page. In order to receive your honors cord for graduation, active members must obtain a minimum of 50 points before graduation. So, come to meetings and events! We want to see you involved in BBB! You will have fun, we promise!

  • When can I start obtaining points?

    As soon as you attend your FIRST event/meeting!!! No need to wait until inductions!

  • I am a transfer student, may I join BBB?

    YES, after completing one semester at Towson University.

 
  • How do I calculate my Biology GPA?

              To help in computing your Biology GPA, you may find the following website convenient.
