Positions available at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration

I am an Alumnus of Towson University (Class of 1975 with a B.S. in Biology) and am writing to inform you that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is currently looking to hire 600 new staff and backfill an additional 700 positions in order to implement new legislation (the Food and Drug administration Amendments Act of 2007, the Food Protection Plan, and the Import Safety Action Plan) in addition to our responsibilities under previously existing legislation.  The FDA has just been granted Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in order to fill these 1300 positions.  This allows for a simplified job application and acceptance procedure which can result in qualified candidates being placed on the job in as little as three weeks.  FDA needs hundreds of individuals with science and medical backgrounds to help meet the agency’s responsibilities to assure the safety and efficacy of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, food, cosmetics and products that emit radiation.   The vacancies to be filled include the following occupations Consumer Safety Officer, Pharmacologist, Epidemiologist, Mathematical Statistician, Biologist, Chemist, Microbiologist, and General Health/Regulatory Health Scientist.

With nearly 32 years of experience in the FDA, I can assure you that the work and responsibilities are very rewarding.  FDA regulated products account for about 25% of every dollar in consumer spending.  At FDA the workforce is considered our most valuable resource.

If you know of persons who would be interested in one of the above mentioned positions, now or in the future, I would appreciate it if you would have them contact me; as there is a recruitment referral award program available to current employees who refer external candidates who are ultimately hired for employment.
