Biology 446/546 Tropical Ecology & Conservation (3 units)
Description:
The main goals of this course are: First, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the abiotic and biotic factors and mechanisms that operate within tropical ecosystems and drive their biodiversity. Second, to examine species interactions which are crucial for the functioning of tropical communities. This knowledge will be applied when examining anthropogenic disturbances and destruction of the tropics and discussing conservation strategies. Third, to improve the student’s ability summarizing primary literature and give an oral presentation.
Prerequisites:
Biol 202 either Biol 205 or 207 or Biol 208 or consent of instructor
