COURSE TYPES
Online
By Towson's definition (as seen by students in the registration system) in an online class, "No face-to-face meetings will be held; all instruction is delivered electronically." If a student in another part of the world wished to attend an online class, they cannot be expected to be on campus, so no on-campus transactions can be required at all (registration, advising, payment, text book purchases, library activity, etc.), nor on-campus lectures, labs, nor class orientation meetings.
Students can be required to go to testing centers or other locations in their local community.
Hybrid
Combines online and traditional classroom teaching and reduces the number of classes a student must attend on campus. By Towson's definition (as seen by students in the registration system) a hybrid class is "taught partially online. Face-to-face classroom meetings are reduced by at least 50% and replaced with online activities." If you offer a hybrid course that reduces class meetings a smaller amount, it won't officially be classified as hybrid, but it's helpful to students are informed in advance in the course description or class notes.
Web Supported Courses
Includes online course materials but does not reduce the number of classes meetings a student must attend. Towson has no official category in the registration system for these types of courses.
