YOUNG ARTIST WORKSHOP

ages 5-7 

8 Saturdays, 9:45 am- 11:45 am

October 5- November 23

 

Let young imaginations soar! Creative thinking will be encouraged by exploring a variety of media, including collage, paint, clay, pastel and found objects. Young artists will discover not only the building blocks of art - color, line, texture, shape and composition, but also new ways to see and express their world. People, animals, landscape, architecture and the work of other artists be used to inspire little hands for big art. This course is designed so youngsters have fun while learning new skills.

EXPLORING ART FROM DIFFERENT LANDS

ages 7-10

8 Saturdays, 9:45 am - 11:45 am

October 5 - November 23

Bring your passport for an ARTventure. Students will explore the art traditions from different cultures around the world. As they journey from place to place, they will experience a wide range of both 2- & 3- dimensional art processes, including painting, printmaking, sculpture and clay. Topics will vary each session to create opportunities to discover exciting new lands and different ways of expressing .

CLAY IS THE WAY

ages 7-11

8 Saturdays, 9:45 am - 11:45 am

October 5- November 23

Children can let their imaginations take form with the exciting process of handbuilding with clay. This class will teach students how to create fantasy and whimsical objects such as figures, creatures, boxes and more! Play in the mud and discover new techniques of handbuilding and glazing to transform ordinary clay into extraordinary artwork. Projects will vary each session to allow for returning students. Includes firing fee.

DRAWING & DESIGN

ages 7-11

8 Saturdays, 9:45 am - 11:45 am

October 5- November 23

Learning to draw is the foundation for all other art forms. This course is designed for kids who loves to draw and want to develop their skills. In this class, students will use a range of materials to learn the basic elements and principals of drawing from observation and imagination. They will explore contour lines, value, surface quality, gesture and composition.

Introduction to the GRAPHIC NOVEL <<< NEW CLASS

ages 12-17 

8 Saturdays, 9:30 am - 12:00 am

October 5- November 23

This class is an introduction to the process of  creating an orginal graphic novel. Using the language of  visual storytelling, students will develop a script,  character and setting for their story. They will learn the sequential steps starting with sketches to printing their finished story. A combination of hand drawn and computer assisted techniques will be used sketching, penciling, inking, adding text, coloring,  and finally printing their finished  page.

SATURDAY STUDIO: Drawing & Painting
ages 12-17 

8 Saturdays, 9:45 am - 11:45 am

October 5- November 23

For older students who wish to sharpen and refine their drawing skills or for those who have taken a previous class, we offer Drawing & Painting. Going beyond the topics offered in the younger Drawing class, advanced themes will include drawing from observation and abstraction. Students will move from drawing into painting with water-based acrylics and watercolor. This class is also recommended for those who wish to apply to area art schools and need to build a body of work to strengthen their portfolios. Continuing students will expand their skills.

POTTER'S WHEEL & Hand Building

ages 12-adult 

8 Saturdays, 9:45 am -11:45 am

October 5- November 23

Create unique ceramic artwork with ordinary clay and a spin of the wheel. Learn to use the potter’s wheel and imaginative handbuilding and glazing techniques to produce one-of-a-kind ceramic objects and vessels. Topics include wedging, centering and wheel throwing, along with coiling, slab construction and glaze applications. Working with clay can be a therapeutic process as you make something beautiful with your hands. Returning students will be able to concentrate on either the wheel or hand built construction. For beginners and intermediate students. Includes firing fee.
