Educational Clinics

Adventure Pursuits offers a variety of educational clinics during the fall and spring semesters. Clinics are open to all TU students, faculty and staff with a valid TU OneCard.

Kayaking

Come one come all to test your paddling abilities in the water! No kayaking experience necessary, learn basic to advanced kayaking skills such as wet water exits and rolls from highly skilled kayakers in Burdick Pool. All you need is your OneCard, bathing suit, a towel and health insurance. Participants will be required to pass a basic swim test. No registration is necessary but there are limited spots so arrive early.

Fall 2013 clinics are held Wednesdays from 8-10 p.m. starting Sept. 4, 2013, and running through Dec. 11, 2013. There will be no clinic during Thanksgiving break.

Movement Clinic (register)

If you want to improve your climbing technique, then this is the clinic for you! Topics include balance, movement, and positioning yourself to further improve your climbing. You WILL leave this clinic as a smarter climber.

Fall 2013 clinics will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 5, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, and Dec. 5.

Gym to Crag Series (register)

The purpose of the From Gym to Crag series is to instruct individuals on the techniques used in an outdoor environment for top rope set-ups. This will include knots, natural anchors, and techniques. In an effort to broaden Towson University's climbing community, the From Gym to Crag series will allow climbers to have firsthand instruction from experienced instructors and climbers involved with Adventure Pursuits.

The clinic will be broken up into two components that will be taught independently of one another.

  • During Clinic One (Knots), different types of knots will be examined and discussed. In Fall 2013, this clinic will take place in the Climbing Gym from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 11 and Sept. 19.

  • During Clinic Two (Anchors), types of anchors will be examined and discussed, as well as the EARNEST principle of anchor building. In Fall 2013, this clinic will take place in the Climbing Gym from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 9 and Oct. 17.
