Gym to Crag Series

The purpose of the From Gym to Cragseries is to instruct individuals on the techniques used in an outdoor environment for top rope set-ups. This will include knots, natural anchors, and techniques. In an effort to broaden Towson University's climbing community, the From Gym to Cragseries will allow climbers to have firsthand instruction from experienced instructors and climbers involved with Adventure Pursuits.

The clinic will be broken up into three components that will be taught independently of one another.

  • During Clinic One (Knots), different types of knots will be examined and discussed. In Spring 2013, this clinic will take place in the Climbing Gym from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 13, Feb. 19, and April 25.

  • During Clinic Two (Anchors), types of anchors will be examined and discussed, as well as the EARNEST principle of anchor building. In Spring 2013, this clinic will take place in the Climbing Gym from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on March 6, March 12, and April 3.

  • During Clinic Three, the skills learned in the first two clinics will be utilized in an outdoor setting to set up a top rope system. This clinic will take place at Great Falls National Park in Great Falls, Va., on May 11, 2013. The cost of this clinic is $30. Click here for more information.
  • Clients must attend the first two clinics before attending Clinic Three.

  • Each clinic can be attended separately, but it is strongly recommended that clients attend all three.
  • Students who have completed Clinics One and Two must take a short written assessment to demonstrate knowledge of skills learned before participating in Clinic Three.
    • Students need to receive a score of 80% in order to pass.
    • Students are allowed two test attempts.
    • Study materials will be provided.
