- 3,500 square-foot climbing area

available in at all times to assist with gear rental or belaying and to answer questions regarding types of movement, tying into the harness and strategies for climbing
Participants may check out equipment from the Climbing Gym front desk with a valid TU
OneCard. The following equipment is available for use:
Routes are rated on a Yosemite Decimal System, which ranges from 5.4 to 5.13. The lower the number after the decimal, the least difficult the climb is rated. As the number becomes greater, the moves necessary to ascend up the wall become more technical both physically and mentally. Our routes are indicated by color-coordinated tape, which will reflect the rating difficulty if the climber follows the corresponding taped rock holds.
- All participants must complete the liability waiver and have current insurance information on file at the climbing gym desk.
- A climbing gym supervisor or certified belayer must be present for participants to climb.
- All participants must comply with the judgment and decisions of the staff on duty at the climbing gym.
- Food, glass, and chewing gum are not permitted in the climbing gym area. Water and sport drinks are allowed in a re-sealable container.
- All large jewelry must be removed.
- Only appropriate climbing footwear will be permitted on climbing surfaces; climbing shoes are recommended. No climbing in sandals or with bare feet.
- Be courteous to other participants; respect their space on the wall and the floor.
- No loose chalk. Please use a chalk ball.
- Only International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (U.I.A.A.) approved climbing equipment may be used in the climbing gym.
- Inform staff and other participants of any situation that is unsafe or not in accordance with the safety policies.
- All accidents or equipment damage must be reported immediately.
- Helmets are not required but are recommended and are available for use from the climbing gym desk.
- The quickdraws hanging from the wall are for protection during Lead climbs. Do not pull on the quickdraws to help yourself up a climb.
- Only people who have passed the belay test can belay.
- Bouldering is allowed; however, the boulderer's shoulders may not pass above the third panel or the first quickdraw. It is recommended to have a minimum of one spotter per boulderer. Boulderers and spotters are encouraged to use the additional "crash pads" located within the climbing gym.
- Climbers have the right of way over boulderers. Boulderers can only pass under a climber when the climber is at least 3 panels (9 feet) above the boulderer's head.
- Groups and lessons in progress have priority on routes. If an instructor needs the route for a program, participants may be asked to move to another route.
- No climbing or belaying is allowed while under the influence of intoxicating substances.
- These rules are effective during regular climbing hours; there are some exceptions for classes and special events.
The use of Campus Recreation facilities is a privilege. Individuals who choose to engage in unacceptable behavior may have their access revoked or modified indefinitely.
