College of Business and Economics

Department of e-Business & Technology Management

Meet Andrea Goldstein

  1. Why did you decide on a major in e-Business?

I originally started as a Marketing major, but I really felt like something was missing from my marketing education. It seemed like so much of business was online etc. that there had to be more. Once I found out about the e-Business major, I was definitely hooked. The fact that it overlapped so much was great too. I was able to double major and only add 4 extra classes, I am still going to graduate in 4 years.

  2. What would you say to someone considering a degree in e-Business or a combined e-Business and Business Administration degree?

I would say if you are considering e-Business, definitely consider the combined option. In most cases, the extra classes total only 4-5 more. If you step back for a look at the bigger picture, going to college for one extra semester of classes is totally worth a whole second degree. My favorite part of the e-Business degree and classes is being able to go in to a job and show my boss something they have not even thought of or implemented yet. Not only do I feel prepared for the job, but I feel like I can actually improve the company. Those are the kind of assets that get and keep a good job.

  3. You are the Vice President, of the e-Business Association. What does the e-BA do? Why should students join the e-BA?

Our goal is to provide students with the hands on experience that they do not get in their everyday classroom. Sometimes this includes guest speakers, job fairs, and networking events. Our most popular activity is going on company tours. In September 2011, we toured AOL.com downtown at their Advertising.com division. Not only is that an enviable and unique experience - but it opened so many doors for the members including: internships, jobs, and networking.

  4. What advice would you give to up and coming students within the College of Business and Economics?

My advice for being in school, have fun but take it seriously. Keep in mind you are building the foundation for the rest of your career here. The most important part of that is to have a plan and stick to it. You will have to make adjustments - but that's life. Outside of class, I would never have gotten all the hands on experience that employers really value if I had not gotten involved. Everyone in line behind you, waiting to interview for a job, has a degree too. The out-of-classroom experiences are what set you apart from your competitors - so make them count! This can include anything from workshops to clubs, and events to internships. College comes with free time, so be sure to make the most of it in this competitive job field.
