Department of e-Business & Technology Management
Meet Dov Hoffman
- What made you decide to major in e-Business?
I started off in the College of Business and Economics as a Marketing major
and soon realized that a significant challenge upon graduation would be how
to market myself to potential employers. When I was informed about the combined
e-Business and Business Administration major with a marketing concentration I was
sure that I landed the perfect opportunity to place myself ahead in an extremely
competitive job market as well as the opportunity to become knowledgeable with the
future of business. I am pleased with this decision and have truly enjoyed the e-Business
courses that I have taken so far and am sure I will continue to enjoy them in the future.
I find it exciting to learn about the emerging technologies and how business practices
are constantly adapting to keep up with these changes.
- What would you say to someone considering a degree in e-Business
or a combined e-Business and Marketing degree?
I would strongly recommend any student to pursue a major in either e-Business
or the combined major of e-Business and Marketing for the following reason: e-Business
is the way that business will be conducted in the future. I feel that every
student should take advantage of the information that is being taught about
this rapidly growing industry. In my personal opinion, it is only a matter
of time that we will continue to use the term for today's business as "e-Business."
Eventually it will be known as the norm for how business is conducted and referred
to as business. Think back to when businesses introduced commerce over the telephone,
it wasn't referred to as "t-business," so to e-Business will soon be known as just
business. Pursuing a degree in e-Business or a combined degree in e-Business and
Marketing will provide these students with a competitive advantage in the workforce.
- You are the President of the e-BA. What does the e-BA do?
Why should students join the e-BA?
The e-Business Association was created by College of Business and Economics'
students to expand their knowledge about the e-Business industry. Speakers,
tours, and experiences with business professionals provide the students with
opportunities to continually learn about the upcoming opportunities and
innovations occurring in e-Business. Students should join the e-BA and get
involved in the various events for the very reason that e-Business is the
future of business and they should make themselves a part of this.
We are all going to use these technologies and practices in the future
so why not learn about it when the opportunity is presented?
- Tell us how you got your internship at R2integrated?
How was the experience helpful or fulfilling?
Prior to the Spring 2009 semester I was in contact with Professor Malek,
Director of Professional Experience for the College of Business and Economics
at Towson University as I was aggressively seeking an internship in the e-Business field.
Fortunately she played a significant role in my search process for an internship
with R2integrated as she provided me with information on the various internships
within the e-Business field that were seeking interns and I followed through
with the interview process. The experience at R2integrated was a rewarding
process as I spent 15 hours a week supporting the Director of Marketing.
R2integrated, a Internet Marketing and Technology Design partner, offered
me the opportunity to join a energetic team and get involved in projects
that closely related to my double major. I was able to apply Knowledge,
Skills, and Attitudes (KSAs) that we learn in the classroom to real-life
experiences and expand upon these. I was able to work with a dynamic team
on an assortment of projects for many different clients throughout my internship
experience. R2integrated provided a comfortable work environment allowing me
to grow my skill set. I would strongly recommend that all students search
for internship opportunities as they offer tremendous positive lessons
associated with the experience and the academics learned in the classroom
is often reinforced.
- What advice would you give to up and coming students
within the College of Business and Economics?
I would recommend that ALL students make an effort to attend networking
events, experience internships, volunteer at local causes, in addition
to reading relevant literature to gain as much hands-on experience as they
can. These activities will set them apart from other students in this competitive
job market. It is a crucial to understand the importance of being a well-rounded
individual. The College of Business and Economics does a terrific job of offering
many opportunities, but these are just a starting point as there is no reason
why you can't go ahead and do your research, meet people, and familiarize yourself
with technologies and I guarantee it will set you apart from others. Go ahead
and put yourself out there. It will pay off in the long run!
