Martha A. Mitten Scholarship:  For Undergraduate Students Only

The College of Liberal Arts will award scholarships for use in the 2014-2015 academic year to undergraduate students who are declared majors within the College and who demonstrate strong academic performance. These awards will be designated as follows to honor the benefactors whose names they carry. The primary criterion for each award will be merit, in keeping with the wishes of the donors who made the awards possible.

 

Martha A. Mitten Scholarship

 

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for the Martha A. Mitten Scholarship.

The Martha A. Mitten Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student who has declared a major in one of the departments or programs located in the College of Liberal Arts and who has completed at least three courses (or nine credit hours) of work within that major at Towson University, building a record of academic excellence. The Mitten Scholar will also have demonstrated meritorious citizenship within the University or the community through membership and service in clubs, organizations, or student governance; through volunteer work, service learning, or other civic engagement; or through activities of a related type that the student has defined. The Mitten Scholarship will normally provide at least $500 to recipients, depending on endowment income, toward the costs of tuition or other University charges.

Students may apply for The Martha A. Mitten Memorial Scholarship by submitting the following materials to the office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts (LA 2213) no later than March 28, 2014.

  1.  A completed cover sheet identifying the scholarship sought, the applicant, the applicant’s major, the courses taken within that major, and the applicant’s class standing.

  2. An "unofficial" transcript of work completed at Towson.
  3. A statement of no more than one typewritten page describing the applicant’s academic interests, reasons for seeking the scholarship, and goals.
  4. Mitten Scholarship only:  A statement of no more than one typewritten page identifying and explaining the applicant’s involvement in University or community activities.
