Scholarships, Grants & Awards

Our students are encouraged to apply for department scholarships.

The following scholarships are offered exclusively to geography majors:

Catherine Britt Memorial Scholarship The award is given to an outstanding economics and/or geography student with a preference for double majors. While students at any level are eligible, students with an established record of excellence at Towson have an advantage.
Department of Geography and Environmental Planning General Scholarship The purpose of this award is to provide ongoing scholarships for students in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning. While students at any level are eligible, students with an established performance in TU geography courses have an advantage.
Dr. John M. Morgan III GIS Endowment This scholarship is open to seniors in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning pursuing work in the field of GIS.
Drew Dedrick Scholarship This scholarship is open to continuing freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate students in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning who are in good academic standing.
Fred and Joan Ward Scholarship This scholarship is open to sophomore, junior, senior, transfer, and graduate students in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning. Preference is given to Geography and Land Surveying majors.
Dr. Kent B. Barnes Geography Paper Award

Open to full time undergraduates and full or part time graduate students in the Department of Geography with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Dr. Jerry T. and Mrs. Heather A. Mitchell Scholarship

Open to full time majors with junior or senior status, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Applicants must provide a compelling written statement describing how the scholarship advances career goals and meets financial need.
