A letter to the Towerlight:
Dismantle Concepts of Race to Overcome Tension

Liam Davis

29 March 2010

Alexander Peak’s “Abolish the concept of race,” which appeared in last week’s editorial section of The Towerlight, is correct in calling for humanity to end its recognizance of race.  The world’s ability to overcome racial tension relies heavily on the people’s choice of whether to live in a racial society or not to live in a racial society. This choice should be simple.  Abolishing the concept of race would effectively break the barriers that prevent the masses from focusing on larger challenges facing our world.  Challenges stifled by racial issues range anywhere from education and health care reforms to instances of famine and genocide that sit ignored.  Race is a distraction in a world that requires more focus to tackle global problems.  A society that acknowledges the existence of race is doomed to experience more racism.  Yes, it’s really that simple, but working on reversing this trend of misinformation will not be an easy task.  The worlds must take on the challenge of systematically dismantling the concepts of race in a way that is both safe and sensitive.  Together, our potential is limitless.
