A letter to the Towerlight: Racial Problems Exist, But Where Are the Proposed Solutions?

After reading Adam Jackson’s opinion in last week’s Towerlight and reading this week’s response to that I feel the need to give my opinion on this “diversity problem” we are having. I can see where Adam was trying to go in his piece, but he had no solution to the problem. He’s supposed to be representing a group of young adult brothers who are leaders of a beautiful struggle, but I saw nothing beautiful in the way he attacked this very institution. Yes, we have a black president but that only changes part of the American image. We as a community at Towson have to learn to change ourselves flrst and not attack each other. If you see a problem, then bring it into a forum where all groups are represented. I feel as though by saying all the white kids on campus get what they want was not an effective way to address this so-called problem. There was a generalization made about our fellow white students and that I see is unfair to them. Yes, I am black but I refuse to keep putting other races down to get ahead. If you want to see more minorities maybe it may have been wise to attend a college that was not diverse but catered to your racial needs. Every race, gender, religion and sexual preference needs to be represented at Towson University. So instead of complaining about it do something about it, instead of attacking people with your words.
