The faculty members in the Department prepare teachers to act as advocates for young children---from birth through eight years of age---and their families, and to create and facilitate diverse and technologically relevant developmentally appropriate environments for them. It is our belief that the teaching of young children is a calling in which the teacher believes that only the very best is good enough for the young.

This message is a part of every class and each of the extensive field experiences in which our students participate. Great pride is taken by the faculty in the attention they give to undergraduate and graduate students as together we work to foster a greater interest in young children and to maximize one's own career aspirations and potential.
