Robert W. Blake, Jr. is the Chair for the Elementary Education Department at Towson University. Dr. Blake has a Ph.D. in Curriculum Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a MAT in Biology from Brown University, and a BS in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany. He is a former high school and middle school science teacher and has extensive experience in elementary pre-service and in-service teacher preparation; both in general teaching and in the teaching of science. He has been collecting elementary pre-service teacher narratives of science teaching for over ten years and has numerous national/international presentations. His two most recent publications include a hands-on environmental science book, Inside-Out (2010, NSTA Press) designed to help teachers and interns engage elementary students in outside science learning, and Becoming a Teacher (2012, Peter Lang Publishing), a book that focuses on the use of narrative inquiry as means to investigate and understand teaching.
