Students move through the Elementary Education program in five phases:
Pre Level I consists of all the prerequisite courses needed for acceptance into the Elementary Education major. During this phase, students are designated as Pre-Elementary Education majors and take all of the Towson University Core Curriculum courses and the Elementary Education prerequisite courses.
Level I is the first semester of the Elementary Education program. Students take courses focused on literacy instruction and attend a field placement in an elementary school for ½ day each week.
Level II is the second semester of the Elementary Education program. Students take courses focused on math and science instruction and attend a field placement in an elementary school two ½ days a week.
Level III is the third semester of the Elementary Education program and the beginning of a year-long internship in one or more professional development schools. Interns take courses a variety of advanced courses and attend field placements two full days a week.
Level IV is the final semester of the Elementary Education program. Interns return to the professional development school(s) where they completed their Level 3 internships and complete full time student teaching placements.
