Master of Education In Elementary Education (M.Ed. ELED)
The Master of Education
in Elementary Education is an advanced program of study that provides opportunities for experienced educators to meet the challenges of a dynamic profession. The
program of study helps the student achieve the following goals:
- Developing advanced competencies in curriculum development, evaluation and
instructional design.
- Developing an understanding of the diverse nature of learners
and society.
- Assuming leadership roles in the profession.
- Using technology to enhance learning.
- Understanding and using appropriate assessment and evaluation
(Assessment Literacy).
- Engaging in scholarly activities.
- Thinking and reflecting critically about the educational process
and professional practice
(Essential Dispositions).
The goals and objectives
of the degree program are based on MSDE Professional Development Standards and the core propositions endorsed
by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The areas
addressed by the standards are reflected in the required and elective
courses.
It is recommended that students have a minimum of two years teaching experience due to the nature of the program assignments. The program is 33 semester credits. [Note: The M.Ed. ELED program is NOT a certification program. For certification, see Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program.]
