Jessica Shiller received her BA in history and philosophy at the University of Rochester, and a master's in social studies education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She taught social studies in New York City public schools from 1995 - 2002. She went on to get her PhD from New York University in urban education, during which time she coached new teachers and conducted professional development in schools thruoghout the city. She finished her PhD in 2007, helped found a new high school, and began teaching at Lehman College, City University of New York. After three years at Lehman, Shiller moved her family to Maryland and joined Towson University's department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development as an assistant professorin Fall 2011. She teaches a seminar in urban education as well as the Curriculum and Assessment course.
