Public Accountability Measures - Results of State Licensure Exams
Upon completion of our Professional Education Unit programs at Towson University, our candidates are recommended for certification to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Before a student can be certified to teach in the state of Maryland, they must also pass a content relevant PRAXIS II examination. Please visit this site to learn about the Maryland Passing Scores.
To maintain “National Recognition” with their respective Specialized program Associations (SPA), each program’s Praxis II pass rate must exceed 80% every year. The table below reports pass rate information for the PRAXIS II examinations that relate to our program majors. Please note that all of Towson's teacher education unit programs have exceeded this 80% pass rate expectation.
While reviewing this information, please keep in mind that passing the Praxis II examination is a certification requirement, and not a requirement for graduation, and that many students who complete a Towson University Professional Education Unit program may be pursuing certification in a neighboring or nearby state where Praxis II is not a certification requirement. Please also note that ETS (the administrator of these examinations) will not publish pass rate information for annual cohorts that have fewer than 10 candidates.
