Master of Education in Special Education
Admission Requirements General
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
An overall minimum GPA of 3.00 for full admission to the program, and a 2.75 GPA for conditional admission, based on the last 60 credits of total undergraduate and post-baccalaureate study. Additional requirements for the program tracks are listed below.
Admission Requirements: Special Education Certification Track (M.Ed.)
- Current professional teaching certificate
- Two narrative letters of professional reference
- Completion of reading requirements for renewal of Maryland teaching certification (ECED/ELED 12 cr; SCED 6 cr)
- Passing scores (as determined by MSDE) on the PRAXIS I Exam
Admission Requirements: Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
- Special Education Track Secondary certification requires a minimum of 21 units in content major
- Special Education Track Early Childhood or Elementary Certification (ECED 618 or ELED 611 & EDUC 717)
- Passing scores (as determined by MSDE) on the PRAXIS I Exam
- Brief (1-2 page) admission essay
- Two narrative letters of professional reference
- A vita or resume
NOTE: A
professional teaching certificate is a prerequisite for admission to the program. Non-certified
applicants should contact the M.A.T. program office to obtain information about
earning a professional teaching certificate at 410-704-3191, prior to
enrolling in any course work.
