CHECKLIST OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS FOR

ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE STUDENTS MATRICULATING

ON OR AFTER AUGUST 31, 2011

The Elementary/Middle Special Education Program is a screened major.  All candidates must meeting the following screening requirements:

1.  Passing Scores on Praxis I, SAT, or ACT at or above the level of

     standards established by MSDE

2.  A minimum of 2.75 on all prerequisite coursework required for the major

3.  The required Speech and Hearing Screening

4.  Criminal History Disclosure Statement

5.  Submission of a writing sample

Students are responsible for ensuring that they meet the prerequisite content

and Core Curriculum requirements for the University.  Transcripts will be

evaluated for completion of required courses.* The program is offered at Towson

Univesity (TU), and equals a minimum of 124 semester units of college credit.  A

minimum GPA of 3.0 in the major is required prior to student teaching.

To enter the program, students must pass speech and hearing screening; have a GPA of 2.75 or higher; have completed ENGL 102 with a grade of 2.0 or higher; have completed 60 or more credits; and, have scores on the
Praxis I at or above the level of standards established by the Maryland State Department of Education.
