CHECKLIST OF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS FOR SPECIAL  EDUCATION STUDENTS MATRICULATING ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 1, 2007 Math Track

The major in special education requires a minimum of 135 semester units of college credit. An average GPA of 2.75 or better is required for entering and remaining in the program, and a GPA of at least 3.0 in the major is required for entering student teaching. The following listing includes general education requirements (GenEd), major requirements, and Maryland State Certification requirements.

Academic Content
At least 60 of the following units must be taken before formal admission to the professional education sequence. Candidates must fulfill university prerequisites.

To enter the program, students must apply by March 1 and; take speech and hearing screening; submit Criminal Disclosure statement to CPP; have a GPA of 2.75 or higher; pass ENGL 102 with a grade of C or higher; have completed 60 or more units; and have scores on the Praxis I at or above the level of standards established by the Maryland State Dept of Ed

Minimum total of 135 units needed to graduate. This program includes 30 units in Math to prepare for the Math Praxis II exam (NCLB highly qualified). All academic (gen.ed.) courses must be completed prior to student teaching.
