Instructional Technology - Instructional Technology Track (M.S.)

In an effort to assist teachers and local school systems in the Northeastern area of Maryland, Towson University offers the Master of Science (M.S.) in Instructional Technology. This program is an applied professional program that helps educate leaders in educational computing and media.  The program is hands-on and practical with a considerable focus of most courses being inventive and authentic learning projects.  The Educational Technology track is designed for those who wish to integrate technology into classroom teaching or to coordinate the planning and integration of educational technologies at the school, district, or state level.

A majority of the graduate students in the Instructional Technology program are full-time working professionals who take classes in the late afternoon or early evening and at a gradual pace..  While a number of courses in this program of study are offered at the HEAT Center, not all are.    Students are advised to also consider taking classes on Towson University’s main campus where more electives and schedule options are available. The campus is less than 35 miles from HECC at HEAT.  A number of the required and elective courses are also offered in the online format.

Classes in this program are held at the Higher Education and Conference Center (HECC) at HEAT in Aberdeen.

Application Information

If you are enrolling in this program and have not attended the Towson University Graduate School for the last three years, you must complete a Graduate School application.

Registration

Upon acceptance into the graduate school and department program, all candidates register for each course online.  Typically the course sections at HEAT range from 601 - 610.

For more information regarding registration, contact Ms. Mary Ann Erdman, TLN Administrative Assistant, at merdman@towson.edu or 410-704-2639.

Tuition and Reimbursement

Upon registration for class, you will receive an e-bill from the Bursar’s Office for full tuition and fees via your TU email account.  The bill is not delivered by postal service.  The University fees for the HEAT location are assessed at a reduced rate based on its distance from the main campus.  This bill must be paid by the due date.  Unpaid bills will be assessed late fees and after 90 days will be sent to a collection agency.

Each school system has a different reimbursement policy or procedure based on negotiated agreements with its unions.  You may seek reimbursement directly from your school system upon completion of each course in the program.  Please note the following:

  • Your school system will not pay for your tuition if you receive a grade that does not meet your school system’s reimbursement requirements, if you receive a grade of I (incomplete), or if you receive grade of FX.  Instead, you will be solely responsible for the tuition and fees.

  • Your school system will not pay your tuition if you exceed their reimbursable credit limit. If you exceed your school system’s reimbursable credit limit, you are solely responsible for the tuition and fees

  • Tuition and fees are subject to increase.

If you are taking courses for certification purposes, check with your local school system or Maryland State Department of Education certification personnel to ensure that you are registering for the course you need.

Grades and Transcripts

If you need a copy of your grades, you can receive them through Towson Online Services. You can get information about requesting official transcripts from the Registrar's Office.
