Introduction to Special Education
Towson University offers this 4-course cohort in Special Education in partnership with the Baltimore County Public Schools. The purpose of this 4-course cohort is to prepare teachers to effectively teach special education students in the regular classroom. It also serves as the first 4 courses in the masters degree in special education leading to certification and preparation for passing Praxis in special education. The courses include:
Inclusion for the Classroom Teacher
Curriculum and Methods of Instruction for Students with Disabilities
Informal Test and Measurements for Students with Disabilities
Curriculum and Classroom Management for Students with Disabilities
All courses are offered off-campus in local BCPS schools at reduced tuition based on school system's reimbursement rate. Students will be billed $100 closed contract fee and the school system will be directly billed for the reduced tuition. The proposed cohort is scheduled to begin in spring 2009 and will end in fall 2010. The contact person in BCPS is Pat Lawton, the Director of Special Education, plawton@bcps.org.
