Student Accolades
Department of Dance
Maria Jaen, Dance, won the Best Cinematography Award for “Spotlight.” Her Dance Film was adjudicated in the Screen Dance Showcase during the American College Dance Festival Association North East Regional Conference 2011 in Muhlenberg, PA. Jaen collaborated with Joshua Phillip Gleason from John Hopkins University, they were mentored by Towson University Professors Susan Mann and Greg Faller and JHU Professor John Mann.
Department of Mass Communication and Communication Studies
Jillian McSweegan, Laura Pleines, Keisha Reed, and Erika Walther, Mass Communication and Communication Studies, presented as co-authors with Professor Jennifer Potter at the Towson University 2nd Annual Environmental Conference. Their presentation was titled “Going Green”: Connecting the Green Movement to Other Forms of Advocacy.
Lauren Slavin, Mass Communication and Communication Studies student and Towerlight Senior Editor, was among the 21 student reporters chosen from an international applicant pool of more than 70 undergraduate and graduate students. She was mentored by Professor Thom Lieb.
Erika Walther, Mass Communication and Communication Studies, was selected as one of the two students to represent Maryland in the 141st Interstate Oratorical Association Contest, the oldest persuasive-speaking competition in the nation. After the competition was completed, Erika placed #22 in the nation. Her speech will be published in the annual Winning Orations book published by the association. She presented her paper on the connection between Islam and hip hop music at the TU Multicultural Conference.

Department of Music
Erin Wegner Brooks, Music, is a graduate and former student of Phillip Collister is in her first national tour with a Broadway show – Young Frankenstein.
Darius Jones, Music, has been selected to perform as the lead trombonist with the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra (MACJO). Darius was selected from over a hundred musicians representing 20 colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic area.
Jack Lin, Enukyung Bae, and Yuting Wu, Music, participated with Professor Jeffery Howard in the Orfeo International Music Festival in Vipiteno, Italy with frequent performances in master classes and in leadership roles in the orchestra.
Aaron Broderick, Music Education, was a graduate nominated for the Helen Hayes Award in Washington, DC.
