9 People attended
There is no agenda
Tomorrow we are showing The Take in Hawkins 110.
We are fundraising at Concession stands on April 28th 10-4pm. We need
people!!!
Al Gore is coming to UMBC on Tuesday May 8th at UMBC.
Project Flag Brigade- Monday April 30th. Sign Up for it.
We will vote to change the name of the organization and on the
constitution
Constitution Discussion:
-The Constitution of the Progressive College Democrats of Towson
(Brian's Constitution)
- We will be a progressive organization outside of the DLC.
- Structure: 4 board members (Traditional: President, Vice
President,
Secretary, Treasurer)
- Core part would be committees and committee chairs.
- Political Organizing, Media, Events, and Towson Progressive
committee
- There would be a vote for committee chair but the chair would
not
have anymore power. This is simply for open communication
- Duties for Political organizing go to the entire committee- the
decisions would be collective within the committee, the chair is
simply the mediator
- The committee can overthrow the chair at any point and replace
the
chair if they are not performing their duties
- Purpose: both constitutions similar in goals but the difference
is
in structure.
- Every week each committee a person who is not the chair from
the
committee would attends the planning meeting
- 8 Elected Positions
- Potential to have two co-Presidents/co coordinators
- People can be apart or more than one committee
- Do we want to change the names of some of the positions?
- Is there a status difference if someone is elected rather than
appointed to a position?
- Responsibilities are more established if the position is
elected
- Does the name actually matter?
- How are you going to hold people accountable?
- Idea a number of people take place of what one person does now
- Brian's constitution will change names of the executive
positions
or the name of the group elected
- Both constitutions have the ability to make fundraising
committees
apart of the permanent ones
- Do we have a large enough group to make any of these
constitutions
work?
- Goal is to engage and get people involved in the organization
- Keep group large and involved enough
- Idea is to germ away from the division of labor/ guidelines
- More of an interest problem than a structure problem
- Small responsibility and build it up
Two votes took place. One vote on whether or not the change the name
of the organization and a vote on the Constitutions. The Organization
voted to keep our name as the Towson University College Democrats.
However, the organization is adopting the Constitution proposed by
Brian Ward.
The meeting adjourned at 6pm. This organization will meet at the same
time and place on May 1, 2007.
Respectfully Submitted,
Heather Kangas
Secretary
P.S.
I forgot to mention in the minutes that elections
for Co-Coordinators,
Secretary, and Treasurer will take place next week. Committee Chair
elections however will not take place. Please tell Brian Ward if you
want to run for one of the four positions. have a lovely week!
