Minutes from General Meeting, Tuesday, October 2, 2007

All 4 Committee members were present
24 people attended

-Secretary, Rachel Alexander, started the meeting by announcing that Light the Night is on the 19th of October, instead of the 13th. She then explained the event Zoo Boo and passed around a sign-in sheet for the event and the general meeting sign-in sheet.

-Co-Organizer, Sean Lawlor, then announced some events for other groups in the Towson Progressive Alliance:
            -The Energy Activists are having their summit this weekend.
            -The Queer Student Union is having a Drag Show next week.
            -There will be an Environmental rally that is called Power Shift.

-Co-Organizer, Heather Kangas, gave the group some more information about the trip to Philadelphia in the ocming weeks. She passed around a sing-up sheet for this.

-Greg Mazur than talked about his organization SWAG, and some events they are planning.
           -There will be a rally for the allowance of public education for everyone on the 17th of October. 

Heather Kangas then announced that each committee was going to share their recent progress and ideas with the entire group.

The Iraq War Committee had the following ideas:
            -a Week Of Action from October 22cd to the 25th. On Monday they will pass out black armbands so people can wear them all week to show they are opposed to the war. On Tuesday they will promote the calling of Representative Sarbanes. We want to encourage him to completely stop funding the war. There will also be a movie showing at night. On Wednesday there will be more calling of Representative Sarbanes and a speaker at night. Finally on Thursday there will be a full out demonstration.

The Healthcare Committee had the following ideas:
            -A screening of the movie "Sicko"
            -Chalk outlining with healthcare facts
            -general promoting of student awareness.

The Labor Committee had the following ideas:
           -they decided to focus on two main issues, Adopt-A-Campus and the Concession Stands. They are going to draft a letter to send to the representatives of the organizations and see how they react. The Committee asked the group is they thought it was a good idea for everyone to sign the letter, and the group said yes, so next week that will happen.

The organization then split up into Committees.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm. The next one is scheduled for October 9, 2007.
