Due to the excellent curriculum and faculty expertise in Computer Security, Towson University has been designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security since 2002.  We are one a few universities across the nation that has been awarded this distinction.  We have currently have 8 smart classrooms and 15 computer laboratories.  With the state-of-the-art computing facilities and faculty expertise in various IT areas the department has been establishing more partnerships with federal, state and local government agencies and the IT industry, and plays a growing important role in Maryland's economy.
