Student Advising

For Students:

What is Intentional Advising?

Intentional advising is a systematic process that supports the student in her/his exploration and clarification of academic and professional goals.  This new program is designed to better serve you and make your experience at TU positive and fulfilling, and to ensure that students have a faculty advisor in their major area of study to whom they can turn to for advice.

All COSC & IS students must meet with their advisor prior to registration date. Each semester your account will have a hold placed on it.  If you do not meet with your advisor, the advising hold will not be taken off and you will not be able to register for classes.

How Do I Get Started and What Do I Need to Do?
  1. Make an appointment with your advisor.
  2. Prior to your meeting with your advisor:

Print your degree progress report in Online Services (PeopleSoft).   This will indicate courses you have taken and ones which you still need to take.

Complete the COSC / IS major requirements sheet for your catalog year.   The major requirement worksheets are available here.    (These are also available as blue sheets in the department office in YR 406).

Determine which courses you think you should take next semester and complete the Proposed Registration form. (If you have difficulty, complete as best you can and we will review).

Bring all three documents with you to your advising meeting.

Note: Keep a copy of all documents for your records.
