Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum awards five academic scholarships

Four TU seniors and one junior to benefit from scholarships this spring

TOWSON, Md.—The Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum has awarded five Towson University students $15,000 in scholarships for the spring 2011 academic term.  The Forum’s award recognizes:

As a part of the application process, students were asked to describe their future goals as they relate to technology in their lives.  Craig plans for a future with the Social Security Administration.  Rosenwald described her passion for network management, while Whittington discussed possible career paths in software security engineering or cyber security software.  Lee shared his dream to become a Cisco certified inter-network expert.  Henderson intends to continue her education by getting her Masters Degree in Management of Information Systems.

“Towson University offers a great venue for students interested in developing the right skills to enter the Information Technology profession,” said David Vordick, vice president and CIO of CNA and board member of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum.  "The Forum’s mission is to foster excellence in the Information Technology field by encouraging continual learning, and this award is a great opportunity for the Forum to give back to the university.”

In addition to providing scholarships, CIO Forum members look forward to being actively engaged with the students.  The award recipients will have the opportunity to participate in Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum meetings during the spring semester.

“TU’s partnership with the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum continues to provide a wealth of opportunity for students, business and IT leaders alike. We appreciate the forum’s generous awards and their continued commitment to TU students,” said Dyan Brasington, TU vice president for the Division of Economic and Community Outreach.

The Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum was formed in August 2003, when Towson University’s Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO) entered into a partnership with information technology executives in the Mid-Atlantic region. Its mission is to foster excellence in business and information technology in an environment that promotes educational and networking opportunities for CIO’s facing similar challenges and issues. The forum has offered scholarship awards to students of business, economics and the computer information sciences since spring 2006. This is the eleventh consecutive semester the scholarship has been awarded.
