Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum awards five academic scholarships

Three TU juniors and two sophomores to benefit from scholarships

TOWSON, Md.—The Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum has awarded five Towson University students $8,318 in scholarships for the spring 2008 academic term.  The Forum’s award recognizes juniors Maksim Altmark, Brittany Banks and Dante Lowery, as well as sophomores Shane Lester and Daniel Rossignol.

Altmark, who resides in Pikesville, Md., is an Accounting major. Banks, who is from Secretary, Md., majors in Computer Information Systems. Lester, from Forest Hill, Md., is a Computer Science major, as is Dante Lowery, from Parkville, Md. and Daniel Rossignol, from Salisbury, Md.

Towson University offers a great opportunity for students interested in developing the right skills to enter Information Technology as a profession,” said David Powell, retired VP and CIO at AAI Corporation and member of the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum.  “This award presents a great opportunity for the Forum to give back to the university and help bring us closer to students.”

In addition to providing these scholarships, the CIO Forum’s members look forward to being actively engaged with the five students.  The students will have the opportunity to participate in Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum meetings during the spring term as well as in a mentoring program with Forum members.

Towson University’s partnership with the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum continues to provide a wealth of opportunity for students and business and IT leaders alike. We appreciate the Forum’s generous award and the commitment to TU students that it represents,” said Towson University provost and vice president, Academic Affairs, James P. Clements.

In August 2003, Towson University’s Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO) entered into a partnership with information technology executives in the Mid-Atlantic region to form the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum.

The CIO Forum is designed to foster excellence in business and information technology in an environment that promotes educational and networking opportunities for CIOs facing similar challenges and issues. The Forum began offering scholarship awards to students of business, economics and the computer information sciences in spring 2006.  This is the fifth consecutive term the scholarship has been awarded.
