COSC 673.101 – Introduction to Information Assurance

Course Description: This course introduces principles, mechanisms, and implementation of information assurance. Emphasis is placed on human and technological aspects of information assurance and issues relevant to the risks in which information systems are exposed and methods of dealing with such risks.

 

Course Topics: The content of the course includes:  

 

·        Identification of key information assurance issues that require management attention and effort in a modern business enterprise

·        Current information security threats and vulnerabilities

·        Security, legal, and privacy issues within an information systems environment

·        Basic concepts of information risk management

·        Information assurance policy formulation and implementation

·        Technologies used in the information assurance field, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, etc. 

·        Hands-on lab activities utilizing several security tools, including password-cracking, vulnerability analysis, port scanning, and encryption software
