Computer Science and Information Technology Instructor Position Available at Delta College

POSITION TITLE:

COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR - Tenure Track

Delta College is a community college serving Bay, Midland and Saginaw Counties in the east-central portion of Michigan. Residing in the district are 400,000 people, with three main cities - Saginaw (population 70,000), Bay City (40,000) and Midland (38,000). The Delta campus opened in 1961, and two major renovations have taken place since - a $26 million expansion completed in 1999, and a $42 million project that was recently completed. The College is a charter member of the National League for Innovation in the Community College, in recognition of the range of creative programs offered. Located in the beautiful Saginaw Valley near Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron, inhabitants enjoy easy access to many outdoor water and recreation activities. The Bay, Midland and Saginaw areas feature a wide range of cultural events and festivals all year and are only 1-2 hours from Detroit/Ann Arbor and other metropolitan areas such as Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Chicago. The Tri-Cities boasts some of the most affordable housing in the nation with outstanding choices to live, raise a family, and enjoy a quality of life. In addition, the cost of living is considered among the most reasonable in the nation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and vision of Delta College.
  • Focus on supporting and assessing student learning and academic achievement.
  • Continually develop appropriate innovation in learning and teaching to meet diverse learning styles and needs of students.
  • Collaborate voluntarily and energetically with colleagues in the academic discipline and with other faculty colleagues to develop effective learning experiences for a diverse student body.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of diversity based on the college statement on diversity http://www.delta.edu/diversity/
  • Integrate international and intercultural experiences in the College, community, and curriculum.
  • Serve the community through outreach activities.
  • Make effective use of appropriate technology in the performance of the listed responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • Participate fully in shared governance as a full member of the academic community.
  • Teach at least 30 equated credit hours annually in a variety of settings including day, evening, weekend, on campus, and off campus.
  • Commit to ongoing educational and professional growth.
  • Engage fully in course, discipline, and program development.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Teach software, hardware, and computer science/information technology courses involving emerging technology. Develop new courses and assist with curriculum development and assessment. Evening, weekend, off-campus center teaching of students having diverse academic backgrounds in multicultural settings will be required. Participation in division and college governance and demonstration of ongoing educational and professional growth are required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or other related discipline. (If the Master's degree is not related to computers, undergraduate major must be computer-related, or the applicant must have successfully completed equivalent computer-related courses.)
  2. Minimum of two years' work experience at a significant professional or technical level in the field of computers.
  3. Demonstrated currency at a significant professional or technical level in the field of computers.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCES CONSIDERED:

  1. Significant professional or technical work experience in the field of computers.
  2. Curriculum and/or course development experience.
  3. Substantive multicultural experience (for example: urban community service, academic course work in minority or foreign language studies, or teaching experience with minority students).
  4. An ability to teach in a variety of formats, including on-line.
  5. Community college teaching experience.
