How to Use the "User Drive" Utility
You
can save files from any COSC Lab PC to the A:\ drive, and also to
C:\home and/or C:\temp (although those folders are not secure).
But,
you can also save files from any COSC Lab PC directly to your tiger and/or
triton accounts simply by using the “User
Drive” utility
available on all COSC Lab desktops. And here's how it works . . . .
Say
for example you have just finished creating a file in PowerPoint (or any other
application) that you cannot save to A:\ . . .
-
Start the “User
Drive”
application by double-clicking on the User-Drive icon, located on the
COSC Lab PC desktop. A “User-Drive” window should now open.
-
Enter your tiger or triton account username in the username dialogue box.
-
Select the appropriate server name (tiger or triton) from the Server Name
dialogue box.
-
Click “CONNECT”.
-
Enter your tiger or triton password when prompted (remember it’s still case
sensitive).
-
You should now see a “CONNECTION SUCCESSFUL” pop-up box. Click OK.
(If
you were to go to “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer” you’d now be able to see
your tiger H: drive listed in addition to the local A:\ , C:\ and D:\ drives)
-
Save your PowerPoint presentation directly to the tiger H:\ drive.
-
Using “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer”, you can also delete files from
your tiger H:\ drive, and/or copy and paste files from A:\ or C:\ to
H:\ and vice-versa.
-
Before leaving your PC, be certain to click the “DISCONNECT” button on
the User-Drive window to end your session. You do not want your tiger or
triton account to be made available for the next user.
-
CLOSE
the User Drive application window.
