International Student

The number of international students studying at U.S. colleges and has grown steadily since the 1950’s. More than 800 international students attend Towson University each year. These students come from over 100 countries and bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to campus.

Adapting to a new culture can be very challenging. International students may therefore face challenges which differ from their peers. These include:

  • Homesickness
  • Culture Shock
  • Immigration concerns
  • Financial strain
  • Language differences
  • Isolation from family and friends

It is normal to experience some or all of the challenges listed above. As such, there are a number of resources available for international students.

Resources

On-Campus

International Student and Scholar Office offers assistance with orientation, visa and immigration information, referrals, and overall adjustment.

SAGE Mentoring Program promotes academic achievement and fosters a sense of belonging for under served students. The program includes match with mentors as well as weekly activities.

The Religious and Spiritual Coordinating Council advise religious and spiritual student organizations to support wellness and needs of the campus community.

Academic Achievement Center is a full service learning center that provides tutoring, workshops, coaching, and placement testing.

Counseling Center offers individual and group counseling, workshops, and programs to help students make the most of their college experience. Check out the Group Programs page for information on our International Student Support Group.
