The number of international students studying at U.S. colleges and has grown steadily since the 1950’s. More than 800 international students attend Towson University each year. These students come from over 100 countries and bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to campus.
Adapting to a new culture can be very challenging. In turn, international students may face challenges which differ from their peers. These include:
Homesickness
Culture Shock
Immigration concerns
Financial strain
Language differences
Isolation from family and friends
It is normal to experience the challenges listed above. As such, there are a number of resources available for international students.
The SAGE Mentoring Program promotes academic achievement and fosters a sense of belonging for underserved students. The program includes match with mentors as well as weekly activities.
Campus Ministries advise student organizations and provide personal ministry and support.
The Academic Achievement Center is a full service learning center that provides tutoring, workshops, coaching, and placement testing.
The Counseling Center offers individual and group counseling, workshops, and programs to help students make the most of their college experience.
