There is a three-stage admissions process into the B.F.A. professional dance degree program. First, you must successfully apply to Towson University, second, you must successfully pass one of our four auditions with an opportunity to re-audition a second time, and third, you must successfully complete the Dance Foundational courses with a B average (3.0) or above to continue in the major curriculum.
The Department of Dance does not require a final decision regarding acceptance to the University before moving to the next step, but we ask that each student has begun the Admissions process before auditioning.
Step 2: Apply for an Dance Audition Time Slot
To apply for an audition slot, you must submit a separate online Dance Audition Registration and participate in a performance audition. This audition determines your acceptance into the First Year Foundations courses and your eligibility for a scholarship.
Up to a maximum of 50 prospective students are seen during an audition session. Registrants for a certain audition date are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may only audition twice for the major. If you are accepted into the dance major and do not attend classes within a year of your audition date, you must petition the department for later acceptance. Click here for more information about applying to audition.
Step 3: Complete the Dance Foundation Courses Once accepted to the University and the Dance program, students must successfully complete the Dance Foundational courses with a B average (3.0) or above to continue in the major curriculum. Click here to see a sample first year schedule.
For more information about the Audition Process, please call the Department of Dance at 410-704-2760 or e-mal spink@towson.edu.
What if I missed the audition or did not pass the audition?
Students missing the auditions, choosing not to audition, or not passing the audition will be moved to the category of "undecided" or "undeclared." These students will be encouraged to take non-major dance classes and audition or re-audition during their freshman year to join a cohort with first-year dance majors.
Students may only audition twice for the major.
Physical Exam Requirement for Foundational First-Year Courses
After students have successfully auditioned for the pre-dance major program, they will then need to complete a physical examination form before they can be admitted into any dance technique class. Part 2 of the document requires a physician's signature. The forms are returned before the first day of classes to Sidney Pink, Department of Dance, Towson University, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252.
There is a three-stage admissions process into the B.F.A. professional degree program: apply to Towson University, pass one of our four auditions, and successfully complete the Dance Foundational courses.
