Dance Performance Major (B.F.A.)

First Year Experience in Dance

Dr. Susan Haigler is the First-Year Adviser for new students and accepts up to 50 new auditioned first-year pre-Dance majors. The Foundational courses are taught by full-time faculty teaching a rigorous core of knowledge in dance technique, performance, history, music, anatomy/kinesiology and production skills.

A student must earn a 3.00 GPA or better in the Foundational courses (total 24 units). Only students with the highest GPAs within the Foundational courses will be accepted to continue the B.F.A. in Dance Performance. After the Foundational First Year, Dance majors must maintain a 2.50 GPA in dance courses to be eligible for graduation with a major in Dance.

Before entering any dance technique class, each dance major must fill out a physical examination form and return it to Maria DeMeo in the Dance Department. Part 2 of the document requires a physician's signature.
