Mattie Fenton is a senior dance education major at Towson University. "After applying to 12 different colleges, I chose Towson because of its Dance Education track for students who want to dance professionally and also teach in a K-12 education program. I have to complete the normal required performance credits for the dance major as well as education credits, so it feels like a double major. "The dance program at Towson is very professional and demanding of the dancers. In addition to dance classes, I perform with the Towson Dance Company and in four or five student pieces a year. Towson University's Children's Dance Division is associated with the dance department, so Dance Education majors have the opportunity to apply to teach for them. Also, we are required to teach in a non-dance classroom to learn how to integrate dance with other subjects. "When I graduate I hope to find a job dancing professionally and then teach dance in a high school setting. I know that I love to dance and be on stage, but I also have a passion for teaching, so I will definitely return to it later on." This story was originally published on DanceU101.com.
