TU Community Dance

Adult Dance


Towson University’s Community Dance offers adult dance classes in a variety of dance forms taught by full-time faculty in the Department of Dance. Programmed for the beginner to professional mover in mind, classes will help you gain or re-establish perspective of your body and the joy of movement, while focusing on refining technique and building strength. Classes are offered on a drop-in basis with no registration required to attend, and are geared to allow students the flexibility to begin anytime and participate when their schedule permits.

Adult Classes (Drop-in)

All adult classes, not including workshops or master classes, are offered on a drop-in basis. There is no pre-registration or registration fee required for adult classes. Payment can be made in the form of cash or personal checks. VISA, Mastercard or Discover for class card purchases. Payment for classes must be made at the beginning of each class. Discounts do not apply to drop-in or class card purchases.

Functional Awareness Workshop

Functional Awareness (FA) is a practical somatic approach that provides a series of explorations in experiential anatomy to enhance our understanding of movement function, facilitate ease in body action, and improve dynamic alignment. This workshop will be led by Nancy Wanich-Romita.

"By/4 Artist Series" from Deep Vision Dance Company

"By/4 Artist Series" are cross-disciplinary, professional development workshops within an interactive environment. Led by local artists, these events focus on a variety of themes relevant to professional and emerging artists and educators of all disciplines.

"Finding the Authentic Artist" with Alex Hewett

"Finding the Authentic Artist" is a two-hour interactive workshop based on the teachings of Julia Cameron and her work The Artist Way.

Alex Hewett grew up in South River New Jersey. She is a mother of two amazing sons. She is an only child. She is an actor and teaching artist living in Baltimore. Her last television role was the lead in the Investigation Discovery series, Kidnapped, House of Horrors. Her 2014 Baltimore 48 hour film team won the Best Acting award for the film "What Does it Matter." She is a storyteller and has performed in Mortified, NYC, DC and Baltimore, and is a producer / story consultant. As well as Stoop Stories in Baltimore and DC Story League. She is a teaching artist with Chesapeake Shakespeare, and The New Century School in Fells Point. She teaches theatre, improv and writing at Sheppard Pratt Hospital as a creative therapy to children and adults. She is a yogi and prefers not having her feet planted on the ground, upside down is so much better.

Inclement Weather Policy

Being that TUCD's primary role is as an educational institution for children, we adhere to the Baltimore County Public Schools' policy on inclement weather; if Baltimore County Public Schools are closed, so is TUCD.



TUCD students and guests may park in-front of the Center for the Arts building at the designated times as listed on the parking signs.  Saturday parking on campus is free for all commuters parking in front of the Center for the Arts building on Cross Campus Drive and in the University Union Parking Garage.
