Summer 2013 Programs

Towson University’s Department of Dance employ nationally recognized dance faculty and staff who create an encouraging yet challenging environment that engages dancers to sample the exciting world of sophisticated, inventive choreography. Our curriculum emphasizes strong technical foundations while refining and inspiring each dancer’s body to reach full potential. The TUCD Summer Dance Program offerings educate and broaden the minds to appreciate and integrate self expression while challenging young artistic voices through knowledge of dance past and present.

The following programs are offered this summer:

The Dance Movers Program, Ages 4-5

Stimulate the imagination and ignite creativity in our dance masterpiece inspired program! Students will learn, discover and interpret steps from the Ballet and Modern Classics including “Sleeping Beauty”, “Giselle”, Martha Graham’s “Appalachian Spring”, and Alvin Ailey’s “Revelations”.

Program Dates:
June 24-28, 2013, 9:00am– 1:00 p.m.
Tuition - $180

The Dancing Higher Program, Ages 6-10

This one week program is designed for the dancer seeking to enhance their technical training, while expanding their knowledge of dance appreciation, and dance as an aesthetic art form. Dancers will train daily in Classical Ballet and Modern Technique, with supplemental studies in Ballet History, Introduction into Choreography, Improvisation, and Repertory. Participation in the Saturday, June 22nd placement class is required to determine proper level placement.

June 24-28, 2013, 9-2:00 p.m.

The Intermediate Program, Ages 11-14

Modeled and developed for the intermediate dancer to provide more in-depth training and focus to strengthen technique, alignment, core strength, and dance repertory. Daily classes include Classical Ballet, Beginner Pointe and Modern Technique, with supplementary training in Ballet Variations, Dance Injury, Nutrition, Pilates and Repertory. Participation in the Saturday, June 22nd placement class is required to determine proper level placement.

July 8-12, 2013, 9-4:00 p.m.
Tuition - $350

The Modern Program, Ages 11-14

The intermediate student can extend his/her summer training to include a full week of dancing in Modern Technique and study. Daily Modern Technique classes with supplementary studies in Improvisation, Partnering, Alexander Technique and Repertory will be offered. Participation in the Saturday, June 22nd placement class is required to determine proper level placement.

The Pre-Collegiate Intensive, Ages 14-17

The Pre-Collegiate Intensive focuses on refining technique, while gaining strength, stamina, self-expression, and knowledge of the many facets of dance as an art form needed to prepare the pre-professional student for collegiate acceptance. Daily instruction in Classical Ballet, Pointe, Modern Technique, with supplemental studies in Ballet Variations, Improvisation, Partnering, Pilates, Injury Prevention, and Nutrition will also be instructed during the two week intensive. Participants will also have the opportunity to work individually with our faculty on areas of concern in our Body Works class. Participation in the Saturday, June 23rd placement class is required to determine proper level placement.

One Week - $375
Two weeks - $750

Enrollment is limited, and registrations are accepted on a first-come first-serve basis.

$30 Registration Fee will be applied to each registration.
TU Faculty and Staff- 10% off (Excludes Intensive Package)

Summer Packages

Enrollment for The Intermediate Program and The Modern Program combined: $520– 15% off

Registration Policy

A non-refundable deposit of $150 for all programs and intensives must be enclosed with the registration form. If deposit is not received upon registration, TUCD will consider the registration null and void. The deposit is credited toward the tuition payment.
