Children's Dance

Workshops and Master Classes

Developed to enhance and broaden the dancer’s repertory by highly trained dance professionals through movement and lecture. All Workshops and Master Classes are open to the general public as well as pre-existing students.  Enrollment is limited, and participants must pre-register in order to attend.


Angelina Ballerina Workshop

Experience the wonders of dance through the beloved children's book "Angelina Ballerina" by Katharine Holabird in this special one hour workshop for young dancers. Dancers will explore the beauty of Ballet through this whimsical character and learn a ballet dance. The famous dancing mouseling will be making a special appearance!

Ballet Masterclass with Christopher Scruggs

Originally from Annapolis, MD, Christopher is currently dancing with The Louisville Ballet. Prior to joining Louisville, he was a member of Boston Ballet. Scruggs is a recent graduate of Indiana University, where he studied under Michael Vernon, Violette Verdy, and Guo Ping Wang. At IU he earned a Bachelor of Science in Ballet, a Dual Degree in Political Science, and a minor in Spanish Language.

Before attending IU, he studied with the Maryland Youth Ballet under Michelle Lees and Christopher Doyle. Other training includes summer programs with Boston Ballet, Peter Stark’s Next Generation Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and The Washington Ballet.

Scruggs has been seen in the principal roles of Petipa’s The Sleeping Beauty, Michael Vernon’s The Nutcracker, Anthony Tudor’s Lilac Garden, Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco and Allegro Brillante, and Glinka Pas de Trois. Additionally, Christopher has performed the title roles of many ballets around the country dancing as a guest artist.

Scruggs has danced as a soloist and in corps de ballet roles in Dwight Rhoden’s Dear Frederic, Jerome Robbins Fanfare and West Side Story Suite, Val Caniparoli's The Nutcracker, his world premiere work Spaghetti Western, Ma Cong's Teathered Pulse, Mikko Nissinen's 2012 World Premiere of The Nutcracker, Boston Ballet's The Sleeping Beauty , Bruce Simpson's Swan Lake and La Sylphide, Jorma Elo's Lost by Last, Nijinska’s Les Noces, Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo, Act III of Nureyev's Raymonda, and George Balanchine’s Rubies, Who Cares, Serenade, The Four Temperaments, and Coppélia.
