Biography
Jason Armstrong Baker is an original percussive artist who lives the dynamic relationship between mover and music, form and improvisation. Since 2003 he has been an accompanist for numerous dance programs including Towson University, Shenandoah University, UM College Park, and the Community College of Baltimore County.
A drummer for 25 years, Jason holds a B.A. in Music from Berklee College of Music, 1999 and a Graduate Certificate in Music Therapy from Shenandoah University. He has studied percussion in Cuba and taught jazz and world music courses at Nakhodka College of Music in Nakhodka, Russia. As a resident in the Spiritual Lifestyle Program at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Jason immersed himself in yoga, meditation, and drumming.
Currently Jason is performing with a variety of music and dance projects in the Baltimore/Washington area, including a belly dance company, Levialora Drum and Dance, and a new live music project with Miles Gannett. When he is not performing he facilitates music therapy sessions with teens in crisis and for military veterans at Veterans Administration health care facilities.
