Nicole A. Martinell has a M.F.A. in Dance from Texas Woman’s University (TWU), a B.S. in Kinesiology with a minor in Dance from Pennsylvania State University (PSU), and an elementary certificate in Labanotation.

Nicole MartinellIn Texas, Martinell was a founding member of Kinetic Artists Collective, a group of independent choreographers in the Dallas metroplex. Her research on the pedagogy of the ballet barre, titled "Emerging Themes of the Efficacy of Ballet Barre Work and its Connection to Center Floor Work: An Investigatory Study," is published in the Journal of Dance Education (2009). Her choreography, Muffle the Puppet, was featured in ACDF’s Gala Concert (2009). Martinell trained at such places as Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and Allegheny Ballet Company. She was a company member with DanceRINK and ClancyWorks Dance Company, and she presently dances with The Moving Company.

She is now the founder and artistic director of the Baltimore-based Deep Vision Dance Company. Her work has been performed by The Moving Company, TWU, Towson University (TU), Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, Denton Dance Conservatory, PSU, and Kennedy Dance Center and featured at such places as Green Space, N.Y., Montgomery College Theatre, Md., Dan’s Silverleaf, Texas, and the American College Dance Festival Gala Concert, Va. Martinell has been on adjunct faculty at the University of North Texas and the Community College Baltimore County, where she taught jazz and modern technique and anatomy/kinesiology for dancers.

Presently, Martinell is adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County and Towson University, where she teaches composition, modern and ballet technique, and repertory and manages the TU Dance Company. She is also taking classes through the Laban Institute of Movement Studies and looks toward becoming a Certified Movement Analyst in 2012.


American College Dance Festival

Nicole Martinell will be leading a group of  nine B.F.A. students to the 2009 American College Dance Festival Mid-Atlantic Conference being held at Hollins College in Roanoke, VA from March 18 through March 21, 2009.  The Department will present a work of Ms. Martinell's at an adjudicated concert.
